Hwachoonok
About This Spot
Stepping into Hwachoonok feels like entering a quiet, thoughtfully curated haven tucked away in the bustling heart of Gangnam. The atmosphere here is measured and welcoming, marked by a gentle rhythm that invites diners to take their time. Spacious private rooms and attentive, warm service cultivate a sense of ease, making it an ideal spot not just for a meal but for meaningful moments shared around the table.
The air carries the subtle invitation of grilling embers without overwhelming the senses—an uncommon comfort in Korean barbecue settings. There’s a mindful balance between tradition and refinement, where every element, from the charcoal-grilled ribs to the refreshing omija tea that closes the meal, feels purposeful and thoughtfully paired. The accompaniments, generous and varied, offer a quiet conversation with flavors that complement rather than compete.
Beyond the smoke and sizzle, there’s a human warmth here that resonates long after a visit. The staff moves with genuine care, sharing the experience with diners—whether by guiding the perfect way to enjoy each cut of Hanwoo beef or offering a comforting bowl of beef rib soup to feel fully at home. It’s a place where the joy of Korean barbecue is less about spectacle and more about connection, both to the food and to the graciousness of those who prepare it.

We got a separate room. Spacious. Very friendly staff that also cooked the beef for us. Generous amount of sides (banchan) served + a little palate cleanser at the end (cold omija tea). But the beef did not meet our expectations. It was neither super juicy nor rich in flavour. Maybe we had too high expectation. I don't know how this place is compared to other beef places as this was the only beef place we've been to. I've also had better cold noodles and soy bean stew elsewhere.

Best Korean BBQ Beef in town, highly recommend to try if you are in Seoul. Exceptional service, the owner and staff are very kind to us, they gave a free beef soup. Definitely worth a visit

The quality of the beef was just sublime. Beautiful marbling but not heart clogging fatty. The banchans were generous too. I especially enjoyed the spicy raw marinated crab. The place was clean and ventilation was great. There was no trace of that kbbq smell in our clothes. Price was reasonable given the quality of food, service, and ambience. Would recommend to those visiting Apgujeong area.

9/10 ⭐ Came here looking at raving reviews, but we were taken aback by the initial ordering process - that is, minimum 200g order per number of pax solely on the bbq meat page (ie min 2 x 200g for 2 pax). However we were then pleasantly surprised at the quality of the banchan (side dishes) - oysters, crabs and fish, on top of really good kimchi and other dishes eg pancake. We opted for the US meat which was abit more chewy but still very flavorful. Slightly more pricey than most kbbq spots but well worth the experience (plus private dining rooms).

A recommended Korean fine dining by a Korean friend, and it turns out to be the best dining tasting experience. My scores: 1. Charcoal Grilled Marinated Beef Ribs 10/10. Juicy, tender, nice sweetness... OMG; 2. Korean Beef Tartare 9/10, a fresh great taste uncooked beef. I repeat the freshness here, if you dont eat raw, do not try; 3. Spicy Marinated Crab, 6/10. Hmmm I might miss the proper tasting here. It is a cold served meal, and it is spicy. 4. Japchae as a side dish, 9/10. Not oily and delicious. I very recommend this joint.
